Road Guard Qualifications

A. Road Guard Ride Positions:

Initially, three Road Guard positions have been established:

Ride Leader

Mid-Pack

Sweep

B. Requests for Road Guard Applications:

Periodically, requests for applications are made to the general membership for Road Guard positions.  Applications will be accepted through-out the year.  Applications are available from the Road Captain or can be downloaded from the website.

C. Road Guard Ride Position Classes:

Classes are developed for each of the three Road Guard positions: Ride Leader, Mid-Pack, and Sweep.  Classes will be given at least twice each calendar year.

D. Road Guard Evaluation and Demonstration Ride:

After Position Classes are held, Road Guard Evaluation Rides are conducted by a minimum of three current Road Guards to confirm the knowledge and skills of members serving in the three Road Guard positions.  These official rides will be conducted at structured times within the year and will not be in conjunction with any other type of ride.

E. Requirement to be a Road Guard:

Candidates for Road Guard must:

  1. Be a member of both Biggs and National H.O.G. in good standing.
  2. Have submitted a written application to the Road Captain stating a desire to become a Road Guard.
  3. Have ridden with the Biggs Chapter for a minimum of at least the previous 12 months from date of application.
  4. Have completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation approved Experienced Rider Course within the previous 24 months.
  5. Have ridden in at least two of the Chapter’s Get Acquainted Rides within the previous 12 months.
  6. Have participated in a minimum of three Road Guard riding position classes within the previous 12 months.
  7. Have performed satisfactorily in a Road Guard Evaluation Ride conducted by the Road Guards as noted in "C" above.

F. Retaining Road Guard Status:

The requirements to retain Road Guard status are as follows:

  1. Conduct or directly assist in one of the three Road Guard meetings or training classes held through-out the year.
  2. Assist in Road Guard Rider Evaluation Rides.
  3. Assist in one of the Formation 101 Classes for the General Membership.
  4. Serve as Ride Leader or Sweep at least once in the previous 12 months OR satisfactorily demonstrate skill and judgement on a Road Guard Skills and Evaluation and Demonstration Ride.
  5. Have completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation approved Experienced Rider Course or H-D Riders Edge Course within the previous 24 months.
  6. All Road Guards are reviewed by the Road Guard Panel* as to their standing within the Road Guard group in the last quarter of each year.

G. Road Guard Commitment to Improvement:

Road Guards agree to work toward the improvement of each other as Road Guards, their personal riding skills and judgement by providing constructive feedback to each other as appropriate.  Road Guards agree to accept and give input in a constructive manner for growth both personally and as a group, without ego.

*  The Road Guard Panel is made up of the Chapter Director, Assistant Director, Road Captain, Safety Officer and a minimum of one Road Guard at large who is in good standing within the Chapter and the RG Team.  The RG at large will be elected at the beginning of each year by the existing Road Guards to hold this position.  The RG at large election will be held at the first RG meeting of each year.  A simple majority of the existing Road Guards will elect the RG at Large.

If a Road Guard is deemed not able to meet the qualifications required to retain status, they will be notified of the Panel’s decision by the end of the year.
